What is a HUD Home?  HUD is a department of the federal government. 
the Department of Housing and Urban Development.  
When FHA mortages  are foreclosed and the homes are put on the market for sale, they are called HUD Homes.

Is that like a bank-owned home?
Yes, but different.  It is a foreclosed home but instead of a bank owning it, it's a division of the government that owns it.  Bank owned homes come in all price ranges.  HUD homes in general are inexpensive homes.   A common price range is under $55,000.  They are seldom priced over $125,000.
HUD homes are EASY to finance.  They are ideal for owner occupants, especially first time homebuyers, but many investors buy them too.

 
Do I have to pay cash?  No.  HUD wants you
to finance your home with an FHA Loan.
